The vast cooking island is becoming more and more in the kitchen, and the hoods follow the trend. Cooker hoods are an element of household appliances that has become indispensable. There are two general types of hoods: either they evacuate the vapors and cooking fumes by filtering them (recycling) and / or they reject them outside. The first household extractor hood was developed by Airlux in 1960. The first kitchen extractor hood was produced by Faber in 1963. Since then, most of the major appliance manufacturers have had it. Different types of hoods depending on layout, suction system, ventilation system and design. Depending on its layout, the hood can be central, wall or corner, with a credenza or suspended on an island. Depending on its suction system, it is either central or peripheral.
How to choose an island or wall hood? The parameter to be taken into account first is the suction power. It must adapt to the surface of the room in which the appliance is located. This suction power is expressed in cubic meters per hour (which corresponds to the volume of air displaced). The second criterion of choice is the size of the hood. Its length must be equal to the surface of the hotplates, or in the ideal case, higher.
