Be careful with watering, lavender does not like excess water. As we said above, it prefers a light and rather arid land, even limestone. There are only two varieties of lavender that require acid soil: Papillon lavender and lavandula viridis (a yellow-headed variety).

If you are in a mild climate, you can plant lavender in autumn. Otherwise, we advise you to plant it in the spring, after the frost. Do not worry, lavender is a rustic shrub that still resists cold.

But how should we plant lavender? Start by unraveling the roots, eliminating those that have become too long. Add organic amendment to the soil (two handles per hole should suffice).

If the earth is clay, throw coarse sand down the hole before burying the top of the root ball. Make sure there is 40 to 50 cm spacing between each hole: it is advisable to plant no more than 5 plants per square meter.

To begin, choose a pot about 30 centimeters in diameter and make sure the volume is 1.5 to 2 times larger than the root ball.

Once the pot is chosen, plant your mound in a horticultural compost mixed with sand. If you have opted for Butterfly Lavender, consider acidifying with heather earth.

As mentioned above, lavender prefers drought, so avoid the tank with water reserve. Opt instead for a pot with a hole for the evacuation of water irrigation.
