The Chilean is a classic chaise longue model. It is the mixed between the chair and the bed. We are sitting at the same time, both lying down. Indeed, the chaise longue takes its name from transatlantic crossings (called transatlantic). During these long ocean crossings, folding chairs were made available to travelers due to lack of space on the promenade deck. At first, they were in a recognizable color, often in carmine red. Dedicated to relaxing passengers who had access to the deck, including travelers who had a cabin 1st class, could book them in advance, at the same time as their crossing ticket. Comfortably seated on their lounge chairs, their legs extended, passengers could relax, read a book, enjoy a croissant or drink champagne. Today Chilean women have become essential modern furniture during the summer. They are often taken up, revamped, reinvented by inventive and ingenious designers. There are chiliennes that have a seat to support the legs comfortably, armrests Chiliennes, loafers whose support of the seat is flexible and which are usually used in the South.

Ergonomic, the chiliennes are available in many materials to choose from: wood (mahogany, teak, rosewood), steel, plastic and others. There are three main types of lounge chair. The Chilean is the simple form of the folding chair, canvas seat and without armrests, consisting of 3 articulated wooden frames that fit together to make folding flat. The chair-transat is a model a little more elaborate. This classic elongated fabric band is fitted with armrests and folding. The armrests make it more comfortable, but also more bulky. The lounge chair is a model with a footrest, canvas, which clings to the chaise-longue.

The origin of the word “chaise longue” comes from the contraction of the French word “chaise” and the English word “lounge”. “Lounge” is associated with a sense of relaxation, laziness and tranquility. The origin of the word “Chilean” is not entirely clear. It is sure that it takes its name from the country Chile in Latin America, located on the side of the Pacific Ocean.
