When we think of Easter, we always associate it with colored eggs and rabbits with long ears. Do you know the origin of these two symbols? At the base, the Easter Bunny is an imaginary creature. According to tradition, it is the distributor of Easter eggs: colored or chocolate. In certain German-speaking regions, it is the hare who takes on this mission. The Easter Bunny can be white or brown, sometimes even blue. He looks like a human: he stands up and he speaks. Like spring, the rabbit symbolizes the renewal of nature. This symbol appears for the first time in Upper Germany and spreads in the German-speaking countries. Subsequently, it is exported to the United States by German immigrants, as is the case of Halloween and Irish immigrants. The rabbit originates from a German legend. A poor woman who could not offer cakes to her children, decides to decorate her eggs and hide them in the garden. When the children go to the eggshell, they see a rabbit and begin to believe that it is he who has laid the eggs. The egg, too, symbolizes the renewal of nature. It is the symbol of germination, while the rabbit represents fertility.
